To Improvise A Mountain: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye Curates

Visitors will experience To Improvise A Mountain: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye Curates, a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London, presented across the galleries of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. Curated by artist and writer Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, the exhibition brings together works by artists from different places and generations.

Known for her oil paintings of imagined people, Yiadom-Boakye is one of the foremost painters of her generation. Her selection includes works by Bas Jan Ader, Pierre Bonnard, Lisa Brice, Samuel Fosso, Peter Hujar, Zoe Leonard, Glenn Ligon, Toyin Ojih Odutola, Jennifer Packer, Walter Sickert, Édouard Vuillard, David Wojnarowicz and others, alongside her own work.

The exhibition offers a personal journey through the artworks that have shaped Yiadom-Boakye’s way of seeing and thinking. Inspired by poetry, music, rhythm and feeling, it explores how intangible experiences can be translated into images, illuminating the artist’s creative process and unique vision.
